El Real Instituto Universitario de Estudios Europeos, dentro de su labor formativa y de difusión de temas europeos desde una perspectiva multidisciplinar, celebra periódicamente distintos eventos. Autumn Conference on European State Aid Law 2017

The European State Aid Law Institute organises this event in cooperation with and at the premises of the Centre for Competition Law of the Universidad CEU San Pablo. Since its launch in 2003, EStALI events have grown to be the leading platform to present and discuss the latest developments in European State aid control. The high quality of the presentations as well as the analyses provided by their active participants guarantee a professional update on the most important issues.

Workshop | Day 1

The intensive workshop on the first day will give participants a profound insight into currently debated State aid issues, which will be explored and discussed in a small group, thus giving sufficient room for interaction, lively debates and your individual questions.

During the workshop, 2 topics will be discussed intensively.

  • State aid and SGEI in broadband, broadcasting and transport sectors - Manifest error in defining a genuine service of general interest. How to define a market failure and in which cases the SGEI rules apply? How to align SGEI rules with other compatible regimes such as broadband, broadcasting and transport? 
  • State aid for R&D&I - Economic vs non-economic research and collaboration agreements. How to define economic and non-economic activities in R&D&I? What are the challenges of collaboration agreements between research institutes and undertakings?


Conference | Day 2

The conference on Friday provides you with an update and detailed insight into the currently most debated issues in European State aid law. Considering most topical developments and latest cases, the agenda covers the following topics:

  • The Notion of Aid and 'no effect on trade'
  • Interplay of State aid & Structural Funds regimes
  • The impact of State aid control on fiscal law
  • State aid in environmental and energy sectors - Tax-specific considerations
  • Latest jurisprudence on EU State aid matters and Q&A

At the conference you can update your State aid knowledge thanks to a number of highly topical presentations from our renowned experts, which are drawn from EU judiciary, the EU Commission, academia and private legal practice, allowing an insight into the topics from different angles. Q&A sessions leave time for exchange and discussion with colleagues from several EU Member States – use the great networking opportunity!
