As a Lieutenant and Captain he has been a commanding officer in several Artillery Regiments.
As a Major, he has been a professor of Strategy and Organization at the Staff College for 3 years and at the Army War College for 2 years.
He has worked for 5 years as a Staff Officer and Section´s Chief at the Strategy Section of the Joint Staff´s Plans and Strategy Division where he has been the project officer of documents such as the Sp Military Strategy (2003), Sp Military Strategic Concept (2006), etc.
As a Lt Colonel he has been the Commander of the SHORAD Bn II/71 belonging to the 71st ADA Regiment (Madrid).
Also as a Lt Col he has been the Army´s Logistics Chief at the Melilla General Command (North Africa).
As a Colonel he has been the Commander of the 74 ADA Regiment Hawk/ Patriot in Seville.
Since December 2013 he works as a Senior Analyst at the Instituto Español de Estudios Estratégicos (IEEE) in Madrid, where he covers the Euromediteranean Area (Middle East/Maghreb/Sahel).
He is the Spanish representative at the Steering Committee of the Euro-Maghreb Center for Strategic Studies (CEMRES) within the 5 + 5 Initiative.
Ha has had an assignment as a Staff officer at the NATO SFOR HQ in BiH (1999-2000) and he has been Chief Ops at the EU Mission Althea in BiH (2006).
He has a Master Degree in Security and Defense by the University Institute “General Gutierrez Mellado” of the Open University.
He is a graduated from the NATO Defense College (Rome).
He is a guest teacher in several Spanish universities such as Universidad Complutense (Madrid), Universidad Rey Juan Carlos (Madrid) and Universidad San Pablo CEU (Madrid).
He is a member of the euro-med Association of the Institut des hautes études de défense nationale (IHEDN, France).
He has contributed to several journals of strategy encompassing such topics as the Mediterranean, the European Union, the Maghreb and Sahel regions, jihadism, energy geopolitics, or national strategies.
He has published over 100 articles, papers and miscellaneous works in Spanish and foreign publications and newspapers.
He is the author of the book "The conflict in Western Sahara" published by the Sp Ministry of Defense and the University Carlos III (Madrid).
