Summary and objectives

The Master’s Degree in International Relations is a programme run by the Royal University Institute of European Studies, a research centre chaired by Jaime Mayor Oreja and designated a Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence by the European Commission. Offered continuously since 2003, it is a university master’s degree, meaning it is an official programme, which implies that it is recognised throughout Spain and within the European Higher Education Area (EHEA). Since 2019, it has topped the El Mundo newspaper’s ranking as the best master’s programme in international relations.

The aim of this master’s degree is to provide students with specialist training in the functioning and development of international relations, underpinned by a solid academic foundation and with a focus on career prospects. The range of modules enables students to gain a deeper knowledge and understanding of the political, economic, legal and cultural relations of our time, from a multidisciplinary perspective.

The Master’s programme offers specialised training to graduates from a range of degree programmes who wish to pursue a professional career in fields and roles with an international dimension (international journalism and analysis, diplomacy and international organisations, consultancy and international trade, development cooperation, etc.), in both the public and private sectors. The programme also enables students to develop a specialisation that could subsequently be pursued in an academic context.

Typically, a high proportion of the students are international, hailing from more than forty countries to date. This, combined with the international teaching staff and the bilingual nature of the programme, ensures immersion in an international environment.
