Empower Educators
A project funded by the European Commission that promotes teacher training to bring knowledge about the European Union into secondary and sixth-form classrooms.
Empower Educators
Launched as part of the Erasmus+ Jean Monnet Actions in other fields of Education and Training: Teacher Training (ERASMUS-JMO-2024-OFET-TT) call for proposals for the period 2024–2027, EmpowerEducators aims to broaden understanding of the European dimension in teaching and enrich students’ learning experience. The project provides teachers at the upper secondary and baccalaureate levels with knowledge, practical resources and innovative strategies for incorporating content on the European Union into their lessons in an engaging and interactive way.
The project is led by the Royal University Institute for European Studies (RIDEE) at CEU San Pablo University, which has over 20 years’ experience in research on European issues. It is implemented through the CEU network of schools and other public and private educational institutions. The project is supported by the Directorate-General for Bilingualism and Educational Quality of the Community of Madrid and the Italian consultancy firm CesUE, which provides educational advice and helps to promote the project across Europe through
its Euractiv network.

Diploma in Practical Teaching and Models of the European Union
This diploma is aimed at secondary school and sixth-form teachers who wish to enhance their teaching of the European Union in the classroom. Its aim is to provide up-to-date knowledge, teaching materials and innovative teaching methods that enable the EU to be explained in a clearer, more effective and more engaging way. The programme is designed both for teachers at the upper secondary and baccalaureate levels who teach the European Union module—which has recently been added to the curriculum—and for teachers of other subjects who wish to incorporate European content across the board into their lessons. The course is delivered entirely online and features lecturers from the Master’s in Teacher Training at CEU San Pablo University.
European Union model
The European Union Model (CEU MEU) offers students at the upper secondary and baccalaureate levels and those in the sixth form a practical experience in which they take on the role of representatives of the Member States and simulate the workings of the Council of the EU. Through debates, negotiations and votes, pupils develop skills in argumentation, leadership and critical thinking, whilst gaining a first-hand understanding of how decisions are made in the European Union.
