Presentation and history
The Royal University Institute of European Studies (RIDEE) is a research center of the CEU San Pablo University, specialized in the study and analysis of European affairs and international relations with a multidisciplinary vocation. Faithful to the tradition of Christian humanism that distinguishes CEU San Pablo University, the Institute vindicates the Christian roots of Europe as an essential element of its cultural, political and legal identity.
Created in November 1999 under the presidency of Mr. Marcelino Oreja, and today chaired by Mr. Jaime Mayor Oreja, the Institute brings together more than a hundred professors and students from CEU San Pablo University, as well as from other universities and research centers. Its permanent staff is made up of professors and researchers who contribute to the development of projects, publications and academic activities.
The Institute has several specialized centers that reinforce its research and training vocation: the International Center for Arbitration, Mediation and Negotiation (CIAMEN), dedicated to research and teaching in arbitration and alternative dispute resolution methods; and the Center for Competition Policy and Regulation (CPCR), dedicated to research and teaching of competition law and policy in the European single market. The Royal Institute also integrates the European Documentation Center of the CEU San Pablo University and has two support and advisory bodies: an Advisory Council, made up of renowned personalities in the academic, political and economic fields, and a Consultative Committee, responsible for directly advising the CPCR.
The European Commission has awarded the Royal University Institute of European Studies the title of Jean Monnet Center of Excellence in recognition of its academic prestige, entrusting it with the task of setting up a research group dedicated to the study of Europe’s future challenges.
