LANGUAGES

Spanish and English. The character and international projection of these studies require English to be an essential working tool for both students and teachers. Several subjects, as well as many of the activities and seminars organised by the Royal Institute, are taught in English. The program takes place in an international environment as we have foreign students and teachers such as Prof. Simona Elena Rentea, D. Christian Freres o D. Richard Youngs

METHODOLOGY

The Professor in charge of each subject is responsible for the contents of the academic programme and for the assessment of students. In addition, the programme includes specialized conferences delivered by guest lecturers such as members of diplomatic services, civil servants of international organizations, politicians, and journalists with expertise in international affairs.

The approach of this Master’s Degree is basically practical, focused on the active participation of students in the lectures and workshops. After having gone through the compulsory reading lists, students are required to engage in fruitful discussions through the study of cases, by conducting presentations of team-work projects, and moot courts mirroring international bodies proceedings.

Some modules are delivered in English, and consequently, the knowledge of this language is a necessary requirement for admission. In addition to the lectures, students will be assessed on the basis of their participation in the activities organized by the University Institute for European Studies and other collaborating institutions: conferences, seminars, debates, and work lunches. Minimum obligatory attendance rate shall reach at least 80% of the lectures and activities in order to be qualified for the degree.

At the end of the Master’s degree the students will undertake a research project or dissertation – supervised by one of the lecturers of the course. This dissertation will be presented in a viva transfer in front of a panel of experts.

The Royal University Institute for European Studies may offer the opportunity to the three best-performing students to publish their research papers in the working papers series of the University Institute for European Studies. Prior to their publication, all the papers shall have gone through a peer review process and shall comply with the academic standards of the Royal Institute.
